Vol. 94 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Greyhound Exports.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his Department has any information relating to the amount of money which came to Eire for export of greyhounds for years 1940, 1941, 1942 and 1943.

Subsequent to August, 1939, a summary only of the values of imports and exports has been issued. For reasons of public policy it has been decided not to publish, for the present, more details than are given in this summary.

I should like to ask the Minister whether, in view of the fact that greyhound exports are of such importance to this country, and as our best dogs are being exported, it would not be rather important to have these greyhounds placed, more or less, on the same basis as our stallions. The export of greyhounds from this country is becoming more and more valuable to the country.

The Deputy is proceeding to make a speech on the greyhound industry in the guise of a supplementary question.

Yes; thank you, Sir, but I only wish to point out that this is a matter of great importance to the industry.
