Vol. 94 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the uneconomic prices obtainable for store cattle at present and if he will state if there is any prospect of an improvement in the market; also, whether his Department intends to take any steps or to issue any advice to farmers so as to ease the unforeseen situation which has arisen.

I am aware that prices for store cattle, especially for the younger classes, are lower than in the corresponding period last year. Although I consider that farmers need not be unduly apprehensive as to the value of their store cattle, I cannot undertake to give a forecast of the trend of prices and it is not proposed to issue advice on the matter.
