Vol. 94 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manure Supplies.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the total quantity of phosphatic manure used last season; (b) the anticipated quantity that may be available for next season, and (c) the anticipated quantity and form of nitrogenous manures that may be available; also, if he can indicate the prospects of importing North African phosphates or supplies of kainit from French sources.

(a) The total quantity of artificial manure distributed last season was 53,413 tons, consisting of 30,300 tons of 30 per cent. superphosphate and 23,113 tons of compound fertilisers; (b) it is anticipated that an additional 10,000 tons of artificial fertilisers will be available in 1945; (c) no increase in supplies of compound fertilisers containing nitrogen is expected, but nitrate of ammonia may be available in somewhat larger quantity than last season. The last part of the question lies more within the province of the Minister for Supplies.

When will the nitrate of ammonia be available?

Not until spring, anyway.
