Vol. 95 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Apples.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the very heavy yield of apples this year and the possibility that a sufficient quantity of sugar may not be available for jam manufacturers to process the supplies available, he will consider the advisability of making arrangements to have the surplus exported and thereby ensure that owners of orchards may obtain a reasonable price for their crops.

Although, as is customary at this season, large supplies of apples appear to be available for sale by growers there are no grounds for assuming that an appreciable surplus over requirements exists. In general growers are obtaining fair prices and those who cannot secure a ready sale now should arrange to store their supplies for marketing later in the season.
