Vol. 95 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shelter for Travellers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the grave hardship which is caused to travellers who have to stand in queues at Aston's Quay for longdistance buses in all weathers without any cover or protection, and if he will ask the Great Southern Railways to provide some kind of shelter for such travellers.

My attention has been drawn to the matters to which the Deputy refers. The provision of waiting room and shelter accommodation is a matter for the company, but I am informed that arrangements for a central bus depôt are in contemplation. Owing to the supply difficulty a temporary expedient does not appear to be practicable, but inconvenience is minimised in so far as possible in inclement weather by bringing longdistance buses to the terminus an hour before the time of departure.

Would the Minister not consider putting some kind of a temporary shelter there for people who have to queue up? As far as I can see, even when buses are there, the people are subjected to wet and cold, waiting for further buses to take the surplus passengers.

There seems to be difficulty even in providing a temporary shelter at the moment.
