Vol. 95 No. 7

Expiring Laws Bill, 1944—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to continue for a limited period certain expiring enactments—(Minister for the Co-ordination of Defensive Measures).
Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 29th November.

Would the Minister say what other business there will be on the 29th?

The Mental Treatment Bill and some Report Stages.

With your permission, I wish to protest against the attitude of Deputies who are members of the Government in the House last night making cat-calls and yells while Deputy McGilligan was speaking on the Adjournment. It showed disrespect, first, to the Chair, and, secondly, to the Deputy. Furthermore, I think it is very unfair for the Taoiseach or the Government to have all the Deputies here for the purpose of rising and applauding the Taoiseach.

The Deputy is proceeding to make charges against the Taoiseach. He has made his protest.

I wish to make a protest against Deputies rising and clapping and applauding a Minister.

There is nothing in the Standing Orders to forbid such expression of approval.

Is there anything in the Standing Orders against making cat-calls and yells?

I have not heard anything like that. It would not be seemly, to say the least of it.
