Vol. 95 No. 10

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take the items on the Order Paper as they appear—Nos. 1 to 4, inclusive.

When is it proposed to take the Adjournment?

It is presumed that the business on the Order Paper will be concluded to-night; and, if so, the House will then be asked to adjourn until the 24th January next.

I take it, Sir, that matters of which notice has been already given to the Ceann Comhairle may be raised on the Adjournment?

Certainly, but as to the time they will be taken, I cannot say. It will depend upon when the business is concluded. The usual practice is to give a half an hour——

A Chinn Comhairle, I wish——

The Minister is replying to Deputy Norton.

Perhaps the House would like to have more than half an hour devoted to the adjournment debate.

It is not a question of a half an hour,

Well, then, will there be any time limit?

I am quite prepared to agree to a time limit being fixed.

I do not know how long the business on the Order Paper will take. It might take up to nine o'clock to-night; but, at whatever time Public Business may be concluded, would the House be agreeable to give three hours for the adjournment debate?

A maximum of three hours, no matter what time it takes to deal with Public Business?

I take it then that it is agreed that three hours will be available for the adjournment debate, and that if Public Business is not finished until nine o'clock, the House will adjourn not later than midnight, to-night.

Is it not the intention of the Minister to make some statement as to the interference with the rights of the people as to free speech? Is he not going to give the House——

That matter will be taken up in due course, and in its proper place.

When will it be taken up?

That is not for me to say.
