Vol. 95 No. 11

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of Veterinary Surgeon.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the reason for the prolonged delay in filling the vacancy for veterinary surgeon at Clonakilty, County Cork, and if, he will state when the appointment will be made.

I understand that a recommendation has been made by the Local Appointments Commissioners for the filling of vacancies for a veterinary inspector for—

(a) duties under the Diseases of Animals Acts in the Clonakilty District (comprising the former Clonakilty Rural District and the Clonakilty Urban District), and

(b) duties under the Public Health Acts in the Clonakilty District (comprising the former Clonakilty Rural District and the Clonakilty Urban District).

The local authority appointed Mr. Michael McCarthy, M.R.C.V.S., without delay to fill these positions temporarily. A proposal was then received from the local authority to fill the vacancy at (a) above in accordance with the provisions of Section 5 (1) of the Local Authorities (Officers and Employees) Act, 1926, and they were informed that the office of veterinary inspector was one which should normally be filled on the recommendation of the Local Appointments Commissioners.
