Vol. 95 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Monaghan Farm—Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received representations on behalf of the people of Tullyallen, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, requesting the Irish Land Commission to acquire and divide the Tullyallen farm of, approximately, 200 acres; and, if so, if he will state what action the Land Commission proposes to take in the matter.

The question appears to refer to the holding of Mrs. Mary Murphy (deceased) on the Brownlow Estate in the townland of Tullyallen. Representations have been made to the Land Commission for the resumption of this holding and have been noted. Owing to emergency conditions no further action can be taken at present.

Inasmuch as this is one of the unique occasions upon which supporters of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health and my supporters in Monaghan are at one, would the Minister preserve that temporary and superficially pleasing situation by indicating to them that their representations would be favourably considered if and when the commission is in a position to resume its activities in respect to the division of land?

The followers of the Deputy and of the Parliamentary Secretary?

Yes. In order to avoid the initiation of demonstrations and so forth, would the Minister consider it desirable to say that at the end of the emergency these representations would be favourably considered?

All such representations are favourably considered.

Is the farm of a character which you think might properly be taken over and divided?

Quite so.

That is fair enough.
