Vol. 95 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Frost Nails.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that the farmers in the North County Dublin are unable to work their horses owing to the shortage of frost nails; and; if so, if he is prepared to introduce a system of rationing to enable farmers to get supplies of frost nails in accordance with the number of horses they own.

I am aware that, owing to the virtual cessation of imports of frost nails since the beginning of the war, only very small quantities have been available recently. Following representations which I caused to be made last year to the British authorities, reasonable supplies of frost cogs have been made available, and farmers who use these cogs have had no difficulty in having their requirements met.

I do not propose to introduce a rationing scheme for frost nails.
