Vol. 95 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Return of British Notes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will have a return made available showing the amount of (1) British Treasury notes, and (2) Bank of England notes sent back to England by Currency Commission or Central Bank for each of the years 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1944.

The information required by the Deputy is given in respect of the year 1943-44 in paragraphs (2) and (3) of the Report of the Central Bank for that year and corresponding particulars will be found in the report for 1942-43 and in the Reports of the Currency Commission covering the earlier years mentioned. These reports have been presented to the Oireachtas pursuant to Section 36 (1) of the Currency Act, 1927.

Separate particulars regarding British Treasury notes are not available. Under the British Currency and Bank Notes Act, 1928, British Treasury notes were assimilated to the Bank of England note issue.
