asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (a) the total amount of interest credited to depositors in the Post Office Savings Bank, and (b) the total amount, including interest, standing to the credit of all open accounts at the close of the year in each of the years 1942, 1943 and 1944.

(a) The following is a statement of the interest credited to depositors:—

The figures for "Other Depositors" and "Totals" for 31st December are approximate.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the total amount standing to the credit of accounts in post offices in Ireland in the British Post Office Savings Bank at the close of the years 1942, 1943 and 1944.

According to information supplied by the British Post Office the figures for 31st December, 1942, and 31st December, 1943, are:—

31st December, 1942—£1,347,000; 31st December, 1943—£1,323,000. A corresponding figure for 31st December, 1944, is not yet available.
