Vol. 96 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Portlaoighise Local Employment Office.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if it is proposed to close down the local employment office at Portlaoighise; and, if so, for what reasons; and if he is aware that great inconvenience will be caused to workers by the proposed removal of this office from Portlaoighise, which is the most central town for such office.

The branch employment office at Portlaoighise has been closed down as from the 12th March and the work done there has been entrusted to neighbouring local offices. The small number of applicants resident at Portlaoighise that have been attending the branch office at that centre will be dealt with by post and will receive through the local post office payments due to them. Should the circumstances alter materially consideration will be given to the reopening of the office.
