Vol. 96 No. 21

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hewetstown School—Appointment of Teacher.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the reasons for the delay in sanctioning the appointment of a second teacher at Hewetstown School, Clane, County Kildare.

Appointments of teachers in national schools are made by the managers, subject to the regulations of my Department. In this case, the manager did not propose for recognition as junior assistant mistress a person possessing the qualifications required under the regulations, but finally, having failed to secure a fully eligible person, he was informed that his proposal to employ as junior assistant mistress a person not fully qualified under the rules would be sanctioned as a temporary measure.

Will the Minister say when that information was conveyed to the manager?

On the 15th February.
