Vol. 96 No. 21

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Act, 1923—Vested and Unvested Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the number of holdings vested under the 1923 Act during the periods (1) 1923 to 1932; (2) 1932 to 1939; (3) 1939 to 1945; and (b) the approximate number of holdings awaiting vesting.

Presumably the Deputy's question relates to the revesting in tenant purchasers of holdings on tenanted estates vested in the Land Commission under the Land Acts 1923/39. The number of such holdings revested in tenant purchasers in each of the respective periods in question was (in round numbers) as follows:—

(1) 1923 to 1932

16,300 holdings

(2) 1932 to 1939

12,000 holdings

(3) 1939 to 1945

3,200 holdings

This makes a total of 31,500 holdings revested in tenant purchasers to date under the Land Acts 1923/39, leaving approximately 74,000 holdings awaiting revesting.

These figures are apart from holdings on estates of the former Congested Districts Board still awaiting revesting in tenant purchasers—and also apart from the parcels of untenanted land allotted under the Land Acts 1923/39 which await revesting in the allottees.
