Vol. 96 No. 21

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Miltown Malbay—Turf Supplies for Poor.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state the grounds on which Mr. Casey, Quilty, County Clare, was refused permission to supply turf to the poor of Miltown Malbay; if he is aware that the people concerned allege that they cannot afford to buy turf in the market at the prices prevailing, but that, on the contrary, Mr. Casey is in a position to supply their needs on satisfactory terms if permitted to do so.

There are no restrictions on the sale of turf in the scheduled turf area and, so far as my Department is concerned, there is no reason why any trader who so desires should not sell turf in Miltown Malbay. I am not aware that there has been any difficulty in securing adequate supplies of turf in Miltown Malbay at reasonable prices.
