Vol. 97 No. 19

National Stud Bill, 1945—Order for Committee Stage.

Before the business of the Dáil commences, there is one matter that I would like to put before the House. On Wednesday last, at the conclusion of the Second Stage of the National Stud Bill, it was ordered by the Dáil to take the Committee Stage of the Bill on Tuesday week. In view of the fact that it is likely that there will be no business to carry over to that week, I now ask the Dáil to reconsider its decision. I propose that the Order for the Committee Stage of the Bill be discharged, and that instead the Committee Stage be taken on Thursday next.

Is it anticipated that the Dáil may adjourn at the end next week?

Until what date?

The middle of October.

I have no doubt that, considering that the Order of the Dáil was the outcome of partial representations made by me, the Dáil would wish to consider my views on this matter before deciding to rescind its Order. From a perusal of the Bill it would appear to me that it is one that does not lend itself to wide amendment. It is really a Second Reading Bill, and one that cannot very well be amended in Committee. Having ascertained that fact, I have indicated to Deputy Hughes and to the Parliamentary Secretary that I have no objection to the Dáil altering its previous decision to take the Committee Stage of the Bill at an earlier date than that already agreed upon.

Order for Committee Stage on the 17th July discharged.

Committee Stage ordered for Thursday, 12th July.
