Vol. 98 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improved Social Services.

asked the Taoiseach if the Departmental Committee constituted to inquire into the proposals of the Most Reverend Dr. Dignan for improved social services has yet furnished its report; and, if so, if he will state what its recommendations are; and, if not, when the report is likely to be available.

asked the Taoiseach if he is now in a position to state that the examination of plans for social security has been completed; and when proposals dealing with this subject will be brought before the Dáil.

I will take questions Nos. 2 and 3 together.

The examination of the matters referred to has been completed in the Department of Local Government and Public Health and the results will be submitted to the Government for consideration in due course. When this consideration has been completed such decisions as the Government may take will be announced.

Will the Taoiseach say what does he mean by "in due course"? Does it mean at an early date?

I suppose it means before the by-elections.

No. There is a number of other matters coming before the Government for consideration and it will come along in its turn, as it is ready, and so on.

I mean, the report will not be unduly delayed or pigeon-holed?

No, not unduly delayed.
