Vol. 98 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bus and Train Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether there will be an early improvement in the bus and train services; if the present restricted service is due to an oil, petrol or tyre scarcity; and, if so, what steps, if any, are being taken to secure supplies.

I am not in a position to indicate when any improvement in bus and train services may be expected. The restricted services have been due to shortages of fuel, tyres, vehicles and spare parts. The recent increase in rubber supplies has resulted in an improvement in the position regarding tyres but serious difficulties continue in respect of the other materials.

All possible steps are being taken to secure an improvement of the position.
