Vol. 98 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Tillage Order Fines.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state (i) the number of fines imposed under the tillage Order in County Roscommon; (ii) the number of those fines remitted and the names and addresses of those who received such remissions; and (iii) the number of persons to whom remissions were not made and the reasons therefor.

Mr. Boland

Statistics as regards the number of fines imposed in County Roscommon under the various tillage Orders and the number of cases in which remissions were granted are being collected and will probably be available in a week's time. I shall then communicate with the Deputy. I do not propose to publish the names and addresses of petitioners. That has never been done and I think it would not be a desirable procedure to establish.

As regards part (iii) of the question, remissions in tillage cases are granted only when they appear to be justified upon consideration of the petition and of the reports of the district justice and the Department of Agriculture.
