Vol. 98 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Removal of German Internees.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state if any representations were made by the British Government prior to the removal of German internees from Éire; and, if so, the nature of such representations.

In accordance with international practice internees should be repatriated as soon as possible after the cessation of hostilities. The initiative for the repatriation of the German internees was taken by the Irish Government. Arrangements had to be made with the British authorities for their transport, and for their entry into Germany.

Could the Taoiseach say if the Irish Government have been informed of any action taken by the British authorities to prevent some of the Irish food being distributed amongst distressed people in Germany?

I have not got any information of the kind.
