Vol. 98 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Claim.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if he has received representations on behalf of Mr. P. Dunne, Caragh, Naas, in respect of his claim for unemployment benefit; and, if so, what is the cause of the delay in paying benefit in this case, and when it will be paid.

Two communications were received from the Deputy in reference to Mr. Dunne's claim to unemployment benefit. Replies were duly despatched to him.

The position is that Mr. Dunne was not paid unemployment benefit in respect of four days for which he signed the unemployed register as the contributions then to his credit became exhausted. Following full investigation, his account has recently been credited with further contributions and arrangements are being made to transmit through the post the additional benefit which it is now possible to pay.

The Parliamentary Secretary knows that representations in this matter were made to his Department on the 5th June last and that a considerable period has elapsed since representations were first made. Can he say when benefit will be actually paid on the disputed contributions which are now being credited to Mr. Dunne?

The amount of benefit due to Mr. Dunne will be paid forthwith.
