Vol. 98 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Penicillin Treatment of Mastitis.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the successful use of penicillin in dealing with mastitis in cattle; and if this matter is being investigated by his Department; and, if so, with what results.

I am aware that successful results from the treatment of some forms of bovine mastitis with penicillin have been claimed by scientific workers in other countries. My Department is also conducting trials with this treatment. The limited results available so far are promising but further investigation on an extended scale is necessary before the treatment can be generally recommended.

Is this further investigation going to take place?

It is being conducted.
