Vol. 98 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants to Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether any grants from Government funds have been, or are going to be, made to a body known as Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge; and, if so, if he will state, further, whether, in making appointments, this body has granted, or will be compelled to grant, preference by relaxation of age limits, bonus marks, etc., to those who have given service in the Army, L.D.F., A.R.P., and similar Defence organisations; and, further, to state which, if any, of those who secured appointments from this body, had given any service of the type referred to.

Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge receives a grant in the current financial year at the rate of £5,000 per annum. I am assured that the comhdháil when making appointments give preference to candidates who have given service in the Army or in the other Defence organisations. As regards the last part of the question, I am informed that the principal officer (árd treoraí) already appointed by the comhdháil was a district officer in the L.D.F., and that at least one of the five treoraithe appointed had served in the Army before his appointment.
