Vol. 98 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cahirciveen Postal Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that on several occasions recently the mails have arrived at Cahirciveen from two to three hours after the scheduled times, owing to the inadequate road transport provided by Córas Iompair Éireann; and if he will arrange to extend the latest time for posting letters in the Cahirciveen area so that residents of the town may have an opportunity of answering correspondence received on the same day.

I am aware that on several occasions recently the Cahirciveen mails have arrived later than the scheduled time owing to irregular working of Córas Iompair Eireann road services. I have had the matter represented to the company and I am hopeful that it will be possible to ensure a more punctual arrival.

I regret that it is not practicable to arrange a later time of posting for the outgoing despatch from Cahirciveen. The goods train by which the mails are conveyed departs at 2.30 p.m., and I understand that if the departure were postponed, connection at Farranfore with the night mail train from Tralee could not be secured.

Could the Minister say if it is Córas Iompair Eireann that is responsible for the late delivery of letters in Rathmines?

Rathmines is a long way from Cahirciveen.
