Vol. 98 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of House by Land Commission.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the house on the Land Commission holding (S.240 241/29) R. H. Leonard Estate, Ring Commons, Delahasey, occupied by John Mahon, is in a dangerous state of repair and is not fit for human habitation, and that the Land Commission have refused to erect a house for this man; and, if so, if he will take steps to see that a suitable house is erected without delay.

In January, 1936, John Mahon, a tenant of a two-acre holding on which he resides, was allotted a parcel of 21 acres on the Leonard Estate. This parcel was vested in him on 26th May, 1944. If he requires assistance to build himself a new house or to reconstruct his present house he should, as the Deputy has already been informed in correspondence with my Department, apply to the Department of Local Government and Public Health for a building grant pursuant to the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Acts, 1932-1941. If and when a grant is made to him by that Department, the Land Commission will consider making him a supplementary advance, if he applies therefor.
