Vol. 98 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Supply Position.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether, in view of the improved petrol supply position as evidenced by the restoration of basic rations for private cars, he intends to grant any new licences to former or new hackney drivers, and, if not, if there is any prospect in the immediate future that such applicants will receive licences.

With the exception of certain ex-Army personnel, the only persons, of the class mentioned by the Deputy, to whom petrol allowances will be made, at the rates applicable to hackneys and taxi-cabs, are those who owned and operated such vehicles on the 1st January, 1941, as their main means of livelihood. And they will receive allowances only in respect of the number of such vehicles taxed by them on that date.
