Vol. 98 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shortage of Batteries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the great shortage of batteries for wireless sets and for motor cars; and, if so, if he will state what are the prospects of increased supplies.

I am aware that there is a shortage of batteries for wireless sets and motor cars. Imports of motor car batteries and parts in recent years have been far below requirements, while imports of wireless wet batteries and parts have been practically nil. There are some prospects of obtaining increased supplies in the near future of both types of batteries and of materials for their manufacture.

Reasonable supplies of materials for the manufacture of dry batteries for wireless sets have been available during the past year or so and it is expected that full normal production will be resumed shortly.
