Vol. 98 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Old Age Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount to be provided for payment of old age pensions in the current year, and by how much would this amount be increased if old age pensions were payable at the age of 65 years.

The amount provided for payment of old age pensions for the year ending 31st March, 1946, is £3,800,000. It is estimated that this amount would have to be increased by about £1,700,000 if old age pensions were payable at the age of 65.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, will the amount mentioned break the country or the banks— which?
