Vol. 99 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Animal Feeding Stuffs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether any steps are being taken to import animal feeding stuffs so as to encourage the breeding and feeding of pigs; and whether it is proposed to remove the present restrictions on small bacon curers and pork butchers in order that they can produce bacon and hams for sale to the public.

With regard to the first part of the question, a substantial quantity of Canadian oats is being imported at present and it is hoped to import a quantity of maize during the present year to supplement supplies of homegrown animal feeding stuffs. As regards the second part, it is not at present proposed to remove the existing restrictions on the production of bacon and hams for sale.
