Vol. 99 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol for Sand Lorries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been called to a public statement, on behalf of the Dublin and District Sand and Heavy Haulage Contractor's Association, indicating that, because of lack of petrol, supplies of sand for building schemes may be cut off, and if he is prepared to make a statement on the matter.

I have seen Press reports of a recent meeting of the association to which the Deputy refers but, otherwise, I am not aware of any public statement made on its behalf.

Notwithstanding the difficulties of the petrol supply position, sand and gravel hauliers have received substantial allowances of petrol throughout the emergency and I am satisfied they have been equitably treated, having regard to the supplies available and the rights of other petrol users to a share of those supplies.

There is no ground for the suggestion that supplies of sand to building schemes may be cut off because of lack of petrol for haulage.
