Vol. 99 No. 6

Private Deputies' Business. - Business of Dáil.

There is no other business ordered.

My motion is on the Order Paper and I am prepared to go on with it. Is this not Private Deputies' time?

Yes, but if the business has not been arranged it cannot be taken.

I thought these motions were to be taken in Private Deputies' time.

Yes, but arrangements for taking them must be made at the start of business, so that Deputies may know what is coming on. Some Deputies may have gone home.

Will my motion come up on the next occasion?

If in order. As a matter of fact, No. 2 will come next, as it was passed over before.

May I take this occasion to make an inquiry? On a previous occasion, you said, in your ruling, that so long as the legal proceedings at which these observations were alleged to have been made were pending, you would rule this matter out of order. Am I to understand that, in fact, Motion No. 6 cannot come before the House for consideration until the appeal pending in the case where these words were alleged to have been spoken has been disposed of?

I gave that ruling before, and I adhere to it.

May I inquire if I may depend upon the courtesy of the Chair to give me due notice of the receipt of the official information that the appeal has been disposed of?

Yes, the Deputy may. I have made inquiries on more than one occasion. I will so inform the Deputy when that information is received.

The Dáil adjourned at 1.5 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 13th February, 1946.
