Vol. 99 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Congestion on Mayo Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townlands of Tawnyshane and Conlon, on the Lucan estate, Castlebar, County Mayo; and if he is aware that tenants have been transferred from this area for the past 25 years and no steps have been taken, so far, to re-distribute the holdings vacated by those tenants.

Congestion does exist in the townlands of Tawnyshane and Conlon and the holdings of tenants who have been migrated have not yet been distributed but the process of rearrangement is tedious and difficult and the area at present available for distribution would not make an appreciable impression on the improvement of the size of the holdings It is hoped that some additional land may be obtained but it is not at present possible to state when a comprehensive scheme of rearrangement can be formulated having regard to other equally congested areas which remain to be rearranged.
