Vol. 100 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he proposes to increase the wages of all county council road workers; and if he will sanction the payment of increases granted by those county councils who desire to increase the wages of their road employees.

As the Deputy has so often been informed, this matter is one for the local authority in the first instance. Proposals for increased wages have recently been received from several county councils and have been sanctioned.

Can the Minister say if he has sanctioned the increases recommended by North and South Tipperary County Councils?

I am unable to say.

That is a separate question.

andMr. Breslin asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received representations from the Donegal County Council requesting sanction for an increase of the wages payable to road workers; and if he will sanction the increase proposed.

I have received representations from the Donegal County Council regarding an increase of wages to road workers. The county council was informed on the 23rd March that the matter was one for the county manager in the first instance. I understand the county manager intends to propose an increase.
