Vol. 100 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maize Meal.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, having regard to the importance of pig production in this country, he will permit the dutyfree importation of maize meal, when available; whether he will state if the consignment of maize meal, recently arrived at Waterford, has yet been apportioned; if so, what quantity has been allocated to West Cork; if not, if he will state the quantity which will be apportioned to West Cork.

There is no import duty on maize meal. The maize recently landed at Waterford has not yet been allocated. It is not possible at the moment to state what quantity will be allocated to maize meal millers in West Cork.

On what basis will the allocation be made?

As fairly as possible amongst maize meal millers.

Will it depend on consumption?

That will be taken into account.

Did any further cargo come since the cargo came to Waterford?
