Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Postal Deliveries.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that in several important rural areas of County Wexford postal deliveries are infrequent, and, therefore, unsatisfactory; whether he will state when it is proposed to provide a daily delivery in all rural areas; and, further, whether he will state the date of the last survey of each of the rural districts in Wexford in which the present delivery is less frequent than once daily.

The Deputy is now aware from my introductory statement in connection with the Post Office Estimate for the current year that it has been decided to spend an additional £20,000 a year on the improvement of postal delivery in all rural areas where less frequent delivery than six days a week is now afforded. I cannot at present say to what extent particular localities will benefit, as the details have yet to be worked out. It is probable, however, that it will be practicable to afford an additional day's delivery in all districts with restricted service and possibly more in some cases.

The last general revision of rural services in County Wexford was carried out in 1937/38 but, since then, the arrangements in most of the areas not served daily have come under review in connection with applications for improved facilities.
