Written Answers. - Pensions of National Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the last year for which the information is available: (a) the number of persons in receipt of pension as retired national teachers; (b) the total sum paid in respect of such pensions; (c) the average annual pension; and (d) the number of persons to whom such pensions were paid at each rate of pension.

The figures as on 31st March, 1946, are as follows:—Number of persons in receipt of pension as retired national teachers—3,114; (b) total annual amount of pensions— £411,801; (c) average annual pension—£132 4s. 10d. (d) This information was given in an answer of mine to Deputy Larkin on 30th April, 1946. The reply was as follows:—(i) Under £52 per annum— 309; (ii) between £52 and £78 per annum—143; (iii) between £78 and £104 per annum—218; (iv) between £104 and £130 per annum—700; (v) between £130 and £156 per annum—810; (vi) over £156 per annum—934.
