Vol. 101 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milltown (County Kerry) Sewerage System.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the sewerage system at Milltown, County Kerry, has not been functioning efficiently for some time; if he is also aware that the present water supply in the town is inadequate; and if he will take steps to see that the present sewerage system is extended and improved, and that a water supply, sufficient for the requirements of the town, is installed.

The initiation of proposals for the provision of water supplies and sewerage schemes rests with the local authority, who determine the order of priority of schemes in consultation with the county medical officer of health. I am aware that, in addition to the schemes now in course of preparation in Kerry, the county medical officer of health has listed ten further schemes as urgent. The improvement of the water supply and sewerage system at Milltown does not appear on the list.
