Vol. 101 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Allowance for Boat Owners.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the dissatisfaction which exists amongst boat-owners because of his refusal to grant them a seasonal petrol allowance; and if he will now reconsider his decision in view of the improved petrol supply position.

I regret that the petrol supply position does not yet warrant the granting of allowances for boats to be used for personal pleasure purposes. Allowances are made for boats used for commercial purposes.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary not aware that in Great Britain, where the basic allowance to private motor owners is less than here, there is a certain allowance given to private pleasure boat owners?

I have no such information.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary not aware there are considerable numbers of people who would be employed casually if this petrol were released?

I do not think so.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary not reconsider the position in view of the employment that might arise?
