Vol. 101 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Adoption of Children.

asked the Minister for Justice whether it is proposed to introduce, at an early date, legislation to cover the adoption of children in this country.

Mr. Boland

As I stated in reply to previous questions, I see difficulties in the way of any legislation which would provide for the transfer of parental rights from natural parents. I hope that it may be possible to overcome those difficulties, but I am not in a position at present to give any promise to introduce legislation.

Will the Minister make available to the members of the House a copy of the Adoption Act operative in Quebec and California in order to give us an opportunity of studying it to see if it could be made applicable to this country. I myself think that it could.
