Vol. 102 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turbary on Galway Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the scarcity of turbary for tenants on the Deering Estate at Cloonkeen, Dunmore, County Galway; that there are two bogs available, one on the Deering Estate and the other on the Logan and O'Beirne Estate, which are convenient to the holdings of those tenants, now being cut away by Roscommon County Council; and whether he will arrange with the Land Commission for an immediate inspection of the area with a view to ensuring the taking over of this turbary immediately for division among the tenants concerned.

The Land Commission do not appear to have received any representations recently from tenants on Cloonkeen townland regarding a shortage of turbary, but the Deputy's remarks on this point have been noted and the Land Commission will look into the matter to see whether any action is possible. It would not, however, be feasible or proper for the Land Commission to interfere with the work of county councils on turf production schemes.
