Vol. 102 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imperial Preference.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state to what extent and under what agreement Imperial Preference operates between this country and Great Britain, and whether we enjoy preferences with Great Britain to the same extent as all Commonwealth countries.

Under the Trade Agreement of 1938, goods produced or manufactured in this country are entitled, on importation into Great Britain, to the preferences specified in that agreement. They also receive the benefits of the other preferential rates of duty provided for in the British customs tariff. Reciprocally, under the agreement of 1938, goods produced or manufactured in Great Britain are entitled, on admission into this country, to the preferences specified in the agreement, and also to such other preferential rates of duty as may, from time to time, be in force.

The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.
