asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the number of houses completed in each month during 1946, distinguishing between those erected by local authorities and by private builders; further, the number of houses, distinguished in the same manner, now under construction, which it is anticipated will be completed not later than 31st December next.

At the end of September, 1946, 1,521 houses were in course of erection by local bodies and of this number it is estimated that 270 will have been completed at 31st December, 1946.
At the 30th September there were 1,536 houses for erection by private persons and public utility societies in respect of which certificates of approval had been issued but final payments had not been made. It is expected that 100 of these houses will be completed in the period ending 31st December, 1946.
Note.-The houses erected and in course of erection by private persons and public utility societies refer only to houses in respect of which grants are payable under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Acts, 1932-1946.
