Vol. 103 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission inspectors in County Mayo have reported to his Department on the lands in the county suitable for acquisition and for distribution amongst uneconomic landholders; and if so, if he will give a list of the lands so reported on.

To report on the suitability of land for acquisition and division is one of the chief duties of Land Commission inspectors. This work has been proceeding in the scheduled congested districts, including Mayo, and will continue.

There are objections to the publication of the list the Deputy requires, but if he wishes to ascertain the position as regards any particular land and furnishes particulars thereof, I shall see what information can be made available.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if the Land Commission are about to acquire, for the relief of congestion, the lands known as Ballymona and Carnahan (former owner, W. O'Reilly, deceased), and also the lands in the same district known as "Clarke's Holding"; and, if the Land Commission decide to acquire these lands, if he will give the approximate date on which the scheme will be put in hands.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the holdings of the representatives of William Reilly, deceased, and Patrick Clarke, deceased, both of which are situated in the townland of Carrownahaun. Proceedings for the acquisition and resumption of these lands respectively have been instituted and are continuing, but the Land Commission are not yet in a position to indicate whether or not the lands will be acquired.
