Vol. 103 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether it is proposed to acquire, for sub-division among local uneconomic holders and congests, the lands of Messrs. O'Connor, Mellotte and Tierney in the townland of Killour, The Neale, Ballinrobe, County Mayo; if so, when it is proposed to acquire these lands; and if not, the reasons why it is not so proposed.

Proceedings were instituted by the Land Commission some months ago with a view to the resumption of the three holdings referred to by the Deputy. In two of the cases these proceedings are continuing. In the third case—the holding of Miss O'Connor—the Land Commission, after consideration of a petition lodged on behalf of the tenant, decided to discontinue proceedings having regard to all the circumstances.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will arrange for the Land Commission to acquire, at an early date, the Algy Estate, Togher, Hollymount, County Mayo, to relieve the congestion in the surrounding townlands; and if he will state what steps, if any, have already been taken in this case.

The Land Commission have had a report made upon the lands of Togher, estate of Patrick and Mary Hyland (formerly Allen J. Algie), County Mayo, but they are not yet in a position to indicate whether or not the lands will be acquired.
