Vol. 103 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harbour Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that it is urgently necessary to dredge the channel to Dingle Pier, as the approaches and berths have silted up in recent years; if he is also aware of the need for the provision of a pier crane for the installation of marine engines, masts, etc., in fishing boats, and for discharging coasting vessels; further, if he will state if his Department will make arrangements for the removal of part of the rocky ridge known as Black Point, at the entrance to the harbour, and for the work of foreshore reclamation, as reported on by an engineer of the Office of Public Works, who inspected the project on 14th October and 2nd November, 1935.

I have received a copy of a resolution passed by the Dingle Harbour Commissioners at a meeting held on the 4th November in which they draw attention to the need for the works mentioned in the question. The commissioners have been advised of the further information which they should submit if they desire to apply for State assistance to carry out any of these works.
