Vol. 103 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Mr. Gallagher, Strade, County Mayo, is in possession of approximately 300 acres of land; and if he will take steps to acquire portion of this land for the relief of the congestion which exists in the area.

The Land Commission have had under consideration the question of the acquisition of part of the lands held by Mr. Gallagher at Strade but they have decided not to proceed with the matter.

Will the Minister say why the Land Commission has decided not to proceed with the matter?

I think that the amount of good that would accrue from the acquisition of the land would not balance the evil that would be done.

The Minister must be aware that this man has a gigantic farm in the Midlands as well.
