Vol. 103 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Passenger Transport Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the inadequacy of the present passenger transport facilities in Dublin City and County, particularly at peak hours; and if so, if he will direct Córas Iompair Éireann to increase the number of passenger transport vehicles in service.

I am aware that the present facilities are inadequate, and Córas Iompair Éireann have announced their intention to provide better services as soon as sufficient new vehicles can be procured.

I am aware, also, that the company are making every possible effort to increase their fleet. Until additional vehicles can be obtained I do not propose to ask the company to increase services in the Dublin area in the peak periods as this could only be done by reducing the number of vehicles available for the already depleted services in other parts of the country.

Will the Minister consider allowing, as under the emergency regulations, eight people to stand in a bus?

That is a matter for the Minister for Local Government.
