Vol. 103 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payments to Old Age Pensioners.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that, at the meeting of the Dublin County Borough Old Age Pensions Committee held on 14th November, 1946, several reductions of 2/6 a week were made in the payments to old age pensioners because these pensioners had received an increase of 2/6 a week from the British Army Benevolent Fund for services rendered in the Boer War and the war of 1914-1918; and whether he will see that the means test will be amended so that payments or gratuities not of a statutory nature may be made to old age pensioners.

I am aware that by decisions given on the 14th instant, the Dublin County Borough Old Age Pensions Committee reduced the pensions of certain individuals. I am not prepared to introduce legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
