Vol. 103 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin County Council Staff.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he has received complaints of a serious nature against the conduct of certain officers on the staff of the Dublin County Council; and if so, if he will indicate what action he proposes to take in regard to these complaints.

No complaint of the nature referred to has been received by me. If such complaints have to be made they would be made in the first instance to the commissioner administering the affairs of the Dublin County Council, who would be bound to investigate them.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, may I ask him will be bring this matter before the county commissioner, and, if necessary, I will supply him with the names of the officials concerned? I want to ask him if he will bring the matter immediately before the commissioner if he gets the necessary information?

If the Deputy can give me full particulars, including the names of the persons referred to in his question, I shall certainly bring the matter to the attention of the commissioner administering the affairs of the Dublin County Council, and I will ask him to investigate the matter fully.

On a point of order, is it appropriate to raise the action of officers of local authorities in this House by way of question to the Minister—to bring the attention of the commissioner to certain facts—when it is perfectly open to the Deputy to bring the attention of the commissioner to these facts himself?

I do not think that is a point of order.

Is it not? It is a point of decency.

The Deputy may be a judge of that.
